Thank you and Welcome

The calendars around the world have now changed to the big sixteen. It’s finally here and everyone’s gazing at the horizon hoping for a better tomorrow.

I hope you had a pleasant transition into 2016, in the company of people who matter the most to you.

For me, it was somewhat bittersweet because of the very unfortunate fire that had engulfed one of our popular landmarks in Dubai.
However, what amazed me was the spirit and the brave front of the local authorities, who toiled to get the situation under control, as well as the community here. Strangers had opened their doors to people who had been displaced and needed a temporary place to stay in using a hashtag that was soon trending on Twitter #needanaddress . Even as the fireworks dazzled the night sky, people were extending a helping hand. That speaks volumes by itself.

Never look back, they said.
I beg to differ.

It’s important to look back at least some times. It’s important to retrace steps, reflect on past actions and relive memories. It’s what makes us human after all.

Looking back at 2015, there’s so much I am grateful for:

Host Milano – Expo Milano 2015
It still feels surreal to me when I think about last October, where I was asked to represent the United Arab Emirates at the world’s biggest Hospitality Exhibition – Host Milano, in conjunction with Expo Milano 2015.
Not only did I get a chance to share our amazing food culture with the rest of the world, but I also learned so much from the other brand ambassadors representing their respective regions.

So many countries and continents under one roof!

#SAHFUAE : Safe And Healthy Food UAE
In an attempt to increase an awareness about both food safety and healthy eating habits, I had teamed up with Louise Steen from My Healthy DXB and Ola Sinno from Spill The Bean Cafe to work on a small workshop called #SAHFUAE . We are pleased to announce that a sequel is round the corner so please do stay tuned for updates.
The next one has something interesting for participants to take back with them too. I promise.

SIAL Middle East World Summit
I got to share the platform at a panel discussion hosted by SIAL Middle East, where I was joined by Cathy Mead, Director of Marketing at Intercontinental Dubai Marina and Tony Colley, General Manager Lootah Premium Foods. We had an interesting discussion about the impact of social media on not only the existing food culture, but consumer behaviors as well.

Food safety at home initiatives
Pearl FM, UAE’s first radio network that was launched exclusively for children had hosted a talk show where Mr. Bobby Krishna, Principal Food Safety Officer, Dubai Municipality and I were invited to share our insights on food safety practices at home. This in turn has lead to a ripple effect as more and more families are now interested in not just healthy eating habits but also food safety.

#TTAFChat trends on Twitter – thrice!
#TTAFChat or The Travel And Food Chat, is a fun Twitter chat that covers subjected surrounding the hashtag, travel and food. What started off as an experiment, soon grew into an online community – to an extent that it began trending on Twitter three times thus far! I am ever so grateful to the online community for making this happen and especially to my hosts Jen Tsao and Jay Eatz . We have a few things lined up for this year as well.

Family and friends
I wouldn’t have been able to reach the heights that I did without the constant encouragement and support from my family and friends. Food She Blogged is a little over a year old and I cannot wait to see how this is going to grow in the coming years. Some of the friends I have made both online and offline are friends I intend to grow old with for they are truly amazing and inspirational.
I’ll admit, it is no easy task managing this blog given that I have to juggle a full time job as a food safety consultant. My mind is constantly whirring with ideas that I know will be of benefit to my readers.
Alas, time constraints hold me back and hopefully, this year I’ll be able manage my time better.

Welcome to the journey ahead
I’m truly humbled by the support you show me on my social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Thank you for your feedback there and on the blog as well. I look forward to the journey ahead and sharing the highs and lows that 2016 has to offer. I am not sure if I’ll be able to travel as much as I did last year but I will be working more towards developing Food She Blogged with a face lift.

Don't mind this lost illustration of mine.

Don’t mind this lost illustration of mine created with beet juice, coffee powder, turmeric and sumi ink.

Thank you all once again.
Here’s to a wonderful 2016!

Hi Judy, It was such a pleasure to meet you in Milan. What a busy but fulfilling year you had. I hope 2016 brings you everything you wish for and more.
PS Love the illustration with beet juice and coffee powder. Is that your own creation? How clever you are!

Judy, you are a friend in a million. I have to say after meeting you my exposure to food safety had broadened and using food as a art medium introduced :). Your talent and spirit is just amazing. Sad that we got to know each other for such a short while :s. But the digital world has brought us closer. I hope that one spring or winter we can be in each other’s backyards with su shining through our windows 😀 *nudge nudge*. Wish you the very best in 2016 and hope to catch you in a similar time zone 😉
